ಆಯುಷ್ಯ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದೆ, ಭವಿಷ್ಯ ತೊಲಗುತ್ತಿದೆ,

ಕೂಡಿರ್ದ ಸತಿಸುತರು ತಮತಮಗೆ ಹರಿದು ಹೋಗುತ್ತೈದಾರೆ;

ಬೇಡ ಬೇಡವೆಲೆ ಬಂಜೆಯಾಗಿ ಕೆಡಬೇಡ ಬಯಲಿಂಗೆ ಮನವೆ,

ಚೆನ್ನಮಲ್ಲಿಕಾರ್ಜುನನ ಶರಣರ ಸಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ,

ಹೂಣಿ ಹೊಕ್ಕು ಬದುಕು ಕಂಡಾ, ಮನವೆ.

Wife and children who were together, to their own selves are scattering and going;

No, no, O Mind! Towards the Ultimate, be not a barren, wasted soul,

ಇಲ್ಲಿ "ಬಯಲು" (Bayalu) ಎಂದರೆ ಕೇವಲ ಖಾಲಿ ಜಾಗ ಅಥವಾ ಶೂನ್ಯವಲ್ಲ. ಇದು ಶರಣ ತತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿನ ನಿರಾಕಾರ, ಕಾಲಾತೀತ ಪರಮ ಸತ್ಯ (The Absolute/The Ultimate Reality).
