ಅಲ್ಲೆಂದಡೆ ಉಂಟೆಂಬುದೀ ಮಾಯೆ - Vachana Translation

ಅಲ್ಲೆಂದಡೆ ಉಂಟೆಂಬುದೀ ಮಾಯೆ; 

ಒಲ್ಲೆನೆಂದಡೆ ಬಿಡದೀ ಮಾಯೆ; 

ಎನಗಿದು ವಿಧಿಯೆ? ಚೆನ್ನಮಲ್ಲಿಕಾರ್ಜುನಯ್ಯಾ, 

ಒಪ್ಪಿ ಮರೆವೊಕ್ಕಡೆ ಮತ್ತುಂಟೆ?  ಕಾಯಯ್ಯಾ ಶಿವಧೋ 

- ಅಕ್ಕಮಹಾದೇವಿ 

Translation 1:: 

If I say it is not, this Maya asserts, 'I am!' 

If I say I desire it not, this Maya will not depart. 

Is this then my destiny (Vidhi), O Lord Channamalikarjuna? 

If, accepting, I take complete refuge, is there any other recourse for You but to protect, 

O my Lord? Alas, O Shiva! 

Translation 2 :: 

If I say, "You are not!" – this Maya cries, "I am!" 

If I say, "I want you not!" – it stays, a relentless claim. 

Is this my destiny, this binding chain, 

O Channamalikarjuna, must I plead in vain? 

If, wholly yielded, Your shelter I embrace, 

What choice but Yours, to save me by Your grace, 

My Lord, from this ensnaring space? 

Shivadho! My soul's despairing, fervent call!
